Donald Trump - the 45th president of the United States.
Yesterday, you all came out of hiding. You brought to light how ugly our country really is. America, your true colors have been revealed, front and center for everyone to see. And for that, I thank you.
Thanks for reminding me how racist, homophobic, xenophobic, and misogynistic our country really is. Thanks for proving to everyone that racism still 100% exists. Thanks for making it crystal clear that this country hates women, and is terrified of what we are capable of accomplishing. But most importantly, thanks for reminding me that our fight isn't over.
To those of you with the "funny" memes, the nonchalant commentary, the "what's done is done" passiveness, to the ones that didn't have a political opinion until now, I'm pleading with you to stop.
To those of you actual Trump supporters, get as far away from me as possible. I decline to hear your reasoning. I refuse to agree to disagree.
And to those of you non-voters and third party voters, shame on you. You helped launch our country into the utmost of setbacks. Your lack of involvement, your pride, your laziness just made history - and not in a good way.
So to you all, do not tell me this is about political views, do not try to argue with me about how you voted for Trump because you're a republican. Please do explain to me how you find it acceptable to vote for a man that can "grab me by the pussy". Please tell me and every other queer person as well as trans, black, Muslim, hispanic, female, and anyone else belonging to a minority why we don't matter. Please enlighten me on why you voted for us to not be seen as equals. Try to convince me to accept that I won't be allowed to walk down the street hand in hand with another woman without repercussions and a flurry of derogatory slurs. And while we're at it, go ahead and try to persuade me on how you can sleep at night while choosing to agree with a man who says that if I'm raped and become pregnant, I will be thrown in jail for having an abortion. How can you look me in the eye and tell me that MY body is not my own. Tell me how you can view MY OWN flesh and blood as YOUR PROPERTY.
I'll say it again. This was NOT Republican vs. Democrat nor Liberal vs. Conservative. This was a sickening victory for hate. This was love not being enough. This was our country being cracked open by a gut wrenchingly, vile man and every single one of his un-educated, ignorant followers. This is regression, this is control, this is terrifying.
So I beg of you...DO NOT tell me it's going to be okay. DO NOT tell me that what I have to say "isn't fair" or pointing fingers and playing the blame game can't changed what happened. DO NOT tell me to "just accept it". DO NOT tell me I can't be angry. I have every right to be angry, upset, hurt. We all do, and frankly we all should be. People have been through hell and back to get to where we are today and even so, still have a heaping pile of bullshit to push our way through. And now we as a country have hit the reset button on all of that. We have chosen hatred and inequality once more. We have chosen fear, fear of a woman leading us and moving us forward. This was never about respecting one another's political beliefs. This was an attack orchestrated by angry, old, white men and their millions of impressionable followers.
We did not choose humanity, when it was really that simple.
So DO NOT tell me how I should or should not feel. Because of you I'm livid, I'm broken, I'm defeated. Because of you and the rest of the American people, I am going to have to fight for everything and everyone that has ever mattered to me. I'm going to have to fight for myself. And America, YOU put me in that position, all blame is on you.
So now all I ask of you is to let me mourn. For myself and my beautiful, determined queer community. For my black and hispanic and Muslim friends. For all of the brave, strong women in my life. For my friends and family in the military. For those of us who have had to sit in the deep, dark pit of rape culture first hand. My heart is breaking for us all.
America for everything you just took away from me, you owe me this - time to honor how I feel. Time to recuperate and time to tell everyone in my life that I'm here for them and I'm ready to do whatever it takes for us to keep our freedom and happiness.
And please, if you're going to help us fight let it be known because I for one, feel abandoned.
Now, more than ever we must stand together. We must hold each other tightly and voice our love for one other. We must show our determination to restore faith in humanity.
Because the sun will continue to rise and fall, while hate will relentlessly rear it's ugly head.
But with encouragement we will persevere.
With unity we will triumph.
And with love, we will trump hate.
Let's make this country what it can and should be. Let's join hands and fight this fight.
Let's live as the equal human beings we are.
Let's be stronger together.
